In Dr. Johnson’s office we believe preventive dental healthcare is one of the most important services we provide. A dental sealant is a thin plastic coating applied to the chewing surface of the back teeth. By filling in the teeth’s pits and grooves, sealants create a barrier against food and bacteria that cause tooth decay. This procedure is usually done as the permanent back teeth erupt into the mouth but can be placed on deciduous or “baby” teeth if necessary. This procedure is quick and involves no anesthetic and therefore is well tolerated by kids.
